Priesthood ordinations, from interview to record
Deacons, teachers and priests stay with the ward, and elders and high priests go to the stake after the bishop's interview. Wardzen gives each office its steps and shows everyone where each candidate is.
Where ordinations get stuck
None of it is hard. It just lives in too many places.
We interviewed him in January. Was he ever presented?
Is the stake waiting on us, or are we waiting on the stake?
He was ordained a month ago, and the clerk still hasn't heard.
One ordination, step by step
Three screens from a ward's week: the list, one candidate's steps, and the pulpit.
Who uses it
Only the leaders whose callings work on ordinations can see them.
Bishopric
Bishop and counselors
Start each ordination, mark the bishop's interview, and present deacons, teachers and priests from pulpit mode.
Ward clerk and executive secretary
Ward clerk, ward executive secretary
The executive secretary keeps the list current and marks steps as they happen. The ward clerk records deacons, teachers and priests from the clerk desk.
Stake presidency
Stake president and counselors
See every ward's candidates, mark the stake interview and the high council, and start an elder's or high priest's ordination for any ward in the stake.
High council and stake clerks
High council, stake clerks, stake executive secretaries
The high council and the stake executive secretaries see every ward's candidates and can mark the stake's steps. The stake clerks record elders and high priests.
In a ward, with its stake, or at the stake
The ward and the stake each take their own steps, and both see where each candidate is.
A ward on its own
Your ward runs every Aaronic ordination. For an elder or high priest, it keeps track of the stake's steps until your stake joins and takes them over.
A ward linked to its stake
Deacons, teachers and priests stay with the ward, under the bishop's keys (General Handbook 18.10.2). For an elder or high priest, the ward does the bishop's interview, the stake is emailed, and the stake takes it from there while the ward follows each step.
At the stake
The stake president holds the keys for elders and high priests (General Handbook 18.10.1). The stake sees every ward's candidates and the step each is waiting on, and can start an elder's or high priest's ordination for any of its wards, even one not yet on Wardzen.
The details that keep it moving
Small things that keep an ordination from stalling between Sundays.
Steps set by the office
Choose the office and the steps follow: four for the Aaronic Priesthood, six for the Melchizedek Priesthood.
Who did it, and when
Note who held each interview and who performed the ordination, with the date it happened.
Recorded by the right clerk
The ward records Aaronic ordinations, and the stake records Melchizedek ones. Only clerks, the bishopric and the stake presidency can mark an ordination recorded.
Nothing waits unseen
Each step waiting on you shows on your home screen. The stake is emailed when a bishop's interview is done for an elder or high priest, and the clerks when an ordination is ready to record.
Easy to correct
Reopen the last step if it was marked by mistake, or reopen a declined ordination to approach him again. A recorded ordination stays as it is.
History you can search
Completed, declined and canceled ordinations stay in history, searchable by name or office, and you can group them by year.
Questions about ordinations
Does it work if our stake isn't on Wardzen?
Yes. Your ward runs every Aaronic ordination. For an elder or high priest, it keeps track of the stake's steps until your stake joins and takes them over.
Do elders and high priests appear on our ward's pulpit?
No. Pulpit mode lists the deacons, teachers and priests awaiting the ward's sustaining. An elder or high priest is presented by the stake, which marks that step itself.
Who can see our ordinations?
Only leaders whose callings work on them: the bishopric, the ward clerk and the ward executive secretary, and at the stake, the stake presidency, stake clerks, stake executive secretaries and the high council.
Who records an ordination once it's performed?
The ward records deacons, teachers and priests. The stake records elders and high priests. It waits on that unit's clerk desk with who interviewed him, who ordained him and when.
What if a step was marked by mistake?
Reopen it. The last completed step can be reopened by the unit it belongs to, and a declined ordination can be reopened too. Once an ordination is recorded, it stays as it is.
