Prayer roll

A prayer roll your whole leadership can keep current.

One shared list of the names your ward or stake is remembering in prayer. Add a name, say why if you like, and take it off when the need has passed.

The Prayer Roll screen in Wardzen: a form to add a name, and below it four names, each with a short reason and a Remove button

Who are we praying for this week?

It should be an easy question. Often it isn't.

The list is on my phone.

Whoever started it is the only one who can update it, and everyone else is working from last month's version.

Is this one still on the list?

Names stay long after the need has passed, because no one is sure who is allowed to take them off.

What was that name for?

A bare name tells the next leader nothing about how to remember that person.

How it works

Three steps, and everyone sees the same list

There is nothing to set up. The Prayer Roll is in the sidebar, under Meetings.

  1. 1

    Open the Prayer Roll

Find it in the sidebar under Meetings. Everyone with an account in your unit opens the same list.

  2. 2

    Add a name

Type the name, add a reason if you want one, and press Add. The newest name goes to the top.

  3. 3

Remove it when the need has passed

Press Remove next to the name. It comes off the roll for every leader.

Who uses it

Everyone who leads in your unit

The prayer roll belongs to the whole unit, so there is no special permission to hold. If you have an account in your ward or stake, you can see the roll, add to it and remove from it.

Bishopric and ward clerks

Add and remove names, and invite the other leaders who should have an account.

Presidencies and secretaries

The Elders Quorum, Relief Society, Young Women, Young Men, Primary and Sunday School presidencies, ward mission leaders and executive secretaries can all keep the roll current.

Stake presidency, clerks and high council

The stake keeps a roll of its own for the leaders on the stake's account, including its presidency, clerks, executive secretaries and high council.

Wardzen has no member accounts. Only the leaders you invite see the roll, and each of them can add and remove names.

In a ward, and in a stake

Every ward and every stake keeps its own roll. Linking them does not merge them.

A ward on its own

The ward's leaders share one roll, kept in the ward's own workspace.

A ward linked to its stake

Linking changes nothing here. The ward keeps its own roll.

At the stake

The stake has a roll of its own for its own leaders.

The details

Not much to learn, and a few things worth knowing.

A reason, if you want one

Each name can carry a short reason, like a surgery or a job search. It shows under the name, and you can leave it blank.

Newest on top

The name added most recently sits at the top of the roll.

A record of who changed it

Each name added or removed goes in the unit's activity log, with who did it and when. Bishopric members, clerks and the stake presidency can read the log in Settings.

Take it with you

The prayer roll is included when your unit's data is exported from Settings, so it is never stuck in Wardzen.

Questions about the prayer roll

Who can see our prayer roll?

Everyone who has an account in your ward or stake, which means the leaders you have invited. Wardzen has no member accounts, so no one else in the ward sees it, and no other ward or stake does either.

Can our stake see our ward's prayer roll?

No. Each ward and each stake keeps its own roll. Linking your ward to its stake does not share it.

What should go in the reason?

The reason is optional. Everyone with an account in your unit can read it, so write only what you would be comfortable with all of them knowing.

Is there a record when a name is added or removed?

Yes. The unit's activity log shows each name added or removed, who did it and when. Removing a name deletes it from the roll, so to bring one back, add it again.
